Organised by the New Zealand Pacific Business Council (NZPBC) every two years, the Expo brings together over 100 exhibitors and buyers from a broad cross-section of industries and services from Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia and New Zealand.
Leaders from each Pacific country and territory have been invited to take part. Confirmed attendees include the Governor of American Samoa, Prime Minister of Tonga and the Deputy Prime Minister of Samoa. The New Caledonia Trade Minister will lead a delegation of almost thirty officials and private sector representatives. s.
The 2008 expo aims to promote two-way trade and investment and, in the process, maximise commercial outcomes. A special effort has been made to involve as many Pacific Island businesses as possible, and to focus on the American and French Pacific Territories. Whilst being the organiser of the Expo, NZPBC is strongly supported by three of the major City Councils in the Auckland region (Auckland, Manukau, and Waitakere), plus the Pacific Islands Trade and Investment Commission (PITIC), and the New Zealand Government.
Held just prior to Auckland's annual "Pasifika Festival" (on the 7th and 8th March), the Expo is an essential meeting point for buyers and sellers. It will bring together, in one place at one time, all players of the Pacific region in the fields of manufacturing, goods and services, and technology.
Besides a large number of New Zealand exhibitors, participation from a number of other Pacific nations have also confirmed their involvement, with representation from Polynesian, Melanesian and Micronesian countries (Tonga, Samoa, American Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Cook Islands, Marshall Islands, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia and French Polynesia).
A number of workshops have also been scheduled to discuss topics relevant to the Pacific nations, including bio security and food safety (in conjunction with MAF), new energy and environment, banking and investment opportunities in the Pacific, and marketing/branding.

ACC Opening Night Concert
Festival day
Pasifika Festival takes place in March every year. It is one of the largest community events in the South Pacific. It is recognised as an important celebration of the art, culture and lifestyle of Pacific Islands communities of Auckland.
Join the Pacific Island communities of Auckland to celebrate the cultures of their island nations and explore their connections to each other and to New Zealand. Ten Pacific Islands (Tangata Whenua, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Niue, Samoa, Tahiti, Tokelau, Tonga, and Tuvalu) will showcase their culture in a village setting.
The festival opens on Friday 7 March, with the ACC Opening Night Concert. Herbs (Unplugged), Teuila Blakely, Sunga and groups representing 10 Island nations are among those appearing. The free concert from 7pm to 9pm at Western Springs Park is a celebration of the breadth of talent among our Pacific Islands communities.
It sets the scene for Festival day on Saturday, 8 March, where the expected 225,000-plus visitors can enjoy all day entertainment, traditional Pacific foods, handicrafts, contemporary art and music, and more. The festival hours are 10am 5pm.
A highlight of the festival will be the ten villages spread throughout Western Springs, including a new Tangata Whenua (people of the land) village. Performances will take place on two main stages (Radio 531pi Cultural Stage and SPARC Contemporary Stage), as well as in two performance areas (families area and Pacific Arts Domain) and there will be stages in each of the villages.
This year's Pasifika Festival embraces the eel connection (Western Springs: Te Wai Orea - Lake of eels), with activities centred on this theme.
This year there is also the inclusion of a sports element; a more interactive focus for the families' area; a Niu Sila pavilion area featuring key information and demonstrations from government departments and educational institutes; an international area featuring arts, crafts and music from the Solomons and American Samoa; international Pacific artists; and Samoan traditional tattooists in the Samoa village.
Pasifika Festival is one of the largest free community events of its kind in the world and is one of more than 60 free events provided each summer by Auckland City Council.
